A rescheduling of a heavyweight matchup has been set for a UFC Fight Night event on May 13th. from the VyStar Arena in Jacksonville, Florida – as former division champion, Andrei ‘The Pitbull’ Arlovski clashes with PFL heavyweight tournament victor, Philip ‘Monstro’ Lins. News of the match was first reported by Combate writer, Raphael Marinho.
Belarus native, Arlovski – has dropped four of his last five outings, most recently finding himself on the end of twenty-nine-second knockout, courtesy of perennial contender, Jairzinho Rozenstruik. The 41-year-old managed to return to the winner’s enclosure back at UFC Fight Night San Antonio in July of last year, taking a unanimous decision win over fellow sport veteran and former foe, Ben Rothwell. Arlovski made quite a significant siege to a second Octagon championship between 2013 and 2015, managing victories over Brendan Schaub, ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, Travis Browne, and fellow former champion, Frank Mir – before a loss to current champion, Stipe Miocic.
Arlovski became interim UFC heavyweight champion back in 2005 with an achilles lock victory over Tim Sylvia. The American Top Team trainee successfully defended the championship against Justin Eilers, before he was ultimately promoted to undisputed champion status. In the sole undisputed title defence of his reign, Arlovski beat Paul Buentello.
Rio Grande de Notre native, Lins, will make his premier promotional appearance on May 13th. against Arlovski, following the cancellation of their meeting at UFC Fight Night Oklahoma City on May 2nd., amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, The 34-year-old made his last outing in 2018, besting Josh Copeland in a four-fight streak which culminated with the PFL heavyweight championship victory. In October of 2018, Lins finished UFC alumni, Jared Rosholt, via knockout in the second round, having finished Caio Alencar in the same night via guillotine.
The UFC Fight Night event takes place on May 13th. from the VyStar Arena in Jacksonville, Florida – with a light heavyweight meeting between former title challenger, Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira serving as event headliner. Making his heavyweight debut, Ovince Saint Preux tackles the aforementioned, Ben Rothwell. At 125-pounds, former championship contender, Ray Borg meets with Ricky Simón. In a bantamweight meeting, Sijara Eubanks takes on Canada’s, Sarah Moras.
