Brian Kelleher calls out ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley, again

Brian Kelleher called out ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley during his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. Moving up ten pounds to take on Hunter Azure in the featherweight division, Kelleher landed a beautiful, short left hook that for all intents and purposes ended the fight. Kelleher was able to land several more hammer fists before the referee could jump in to stop the action at three minutes and forty seconds of the second round.

Taking the fight on two-week notice, Kelleher started off slow in the first round, but that seems to be par for the course with him. Fighting an undefeated opponent Azure, who came out swinging like Justin Gaethje last Saturday night. Eventually, Gaethje’s corner asked him to take a bit off his fastball. Azure was knocked out before he could make the adjustment.

Kelleher told the media post-fight he plans on going back to bantamweight and wants Sean O’Malley for his next fight. He has been calling him out for a while now. Tonight, telling Daniel Cormier, Dana White and anyone else who will listen “I told him(Dana) to roll Sean O’Malley up in a joint and I’ll smoke him,” Kelleher explained. O’Malley may think fighting Kelleher is beneath him as he continues his rise in the division. According to the rankings, Kelleher is not that far behind.

Taking a page out of Bryce Mitchell’s book from last Saturday at UFC 249, Kelleher told Daniel Cormier in the ring post-fight he wanted to put in a request for “tye-dyed” shorts to wear when he squares off with ‘Sugar’ Sean, wishful thinking I suppose. At the end of the day, O’Malley draws eyeballs and Kelleher may be at the end of a long list of fighters to call out the Tuesday Night Contender Series winner. Everyone in the division is chasing his clout.
