Report – Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler Clash For Vacant Lightweight Title At UFC 262 On May 15th.

After a prolonged period of unrivalled dominance atop the official lightweight stack, retired undisputed UFC champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov has called time on his career “100% officially” according to UFC president, Dana White.

With the 155-pound championship now vacant, the #3 ranked surging contender, Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira squares off with recent debutante, the #4 ranked former three-time Bellator lightweight best, ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler at UFC 262 on May 15th. to determine the next undisputed UFC lightweight champion. As of writing a location or venue for the pay-per-view has yet to be determined by the promotion.

The winner of a stunning seven straight, Sao Paulo submission specialist, Oliveira most recently knocked back former interim titleholder, Tony Ferguson in the co-main event of UFC 256 in December in a standout unanimous decision win.

Finally landing in the Octagon after a ten-year stint under the Scott Coker led, Bellator banner, Missouri veteran, Chandler made shockwaves in his organizational debut, stopping the tricky striker, Dan Hooker with a stunning first round knockout at UFC 257 on ‘Fight Island’ in January. News of the vacant lightweight title matchup was first reported by ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto.

Oliveira, the most prolific submission artist in the history of the UFC has managed a whopping, and quite frankly staggering fourteen separate submission stoppages. 

As mentioned earlier, the 31-year-old Brazilian has enjoyed a division-leading seven consecutive wins, with triumphs coming against Clay Guida, Christos Giagos, Jim Miller, David Teymur, Nik Lentz, Jared Gordon, Kevin Lee, and the above mentioned, Ferguson.

Carrying a two-fight winning run with him to the UFC, Sanford MMA mainstay, Chandler had stopped both Dana White’s Contender Series alum, Sidney Outlaw, and former UFC and WEC lightweight titleholder, Benson Henderson prior to his move to the UFC.
