According to former interim UFC welterweight titleholder, and one-time undisputed championship challenger, Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington – he knocked out UFC 251 feature and former American Top Team teammate, Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal with a high kick in his final sparring session under the gym’s banner.

Covington, a former teammate, and roommate of Masvidal split from the Coconut Creek facility following a fallout with the latter, as well as former UFC champions, Dustin Poirier, and Joanna Jędrzejczyk. The polarizing 32-year-old last featured in the Octagon at UFC 245 in December, dropping a fifth-round knockout to reigning titleholder, Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman.

Speaking with Submission Radio, California native, Covington gave his reaction to Usman’s decision win and title retention against Masvidal at UFC 251 – before explaining how he had knocked Miami favourite, Masvidal out in his final sparring session at ATT.

He (Jorge Masvidal) has no chance to last five-rounds with me, and he knows that deep down inside that I have a different level to my game than Marty Fakenewsman (Kamaru Usman),” Covington quipped. “He knows that deep down inside. That’s why he’s not gonna step in the Octagon with me. Last time we trained, he got knocked unconscious with a high kick. I faked a takedown, came up. So, he knows who his daddy is. I’m Jorge Masvidal’s father. That is my son. I’m the king of Miami. I’m Miami’s king, and anybody can come get it. I ain’t gonna pick and choose easy fights and try and say who I’m gonna fight, I’m gonna take anybody – cause I’m the best in the world and that’s what the best in the world does.

Talented wrestler and forward pressing force, Covington remains at #2 in the official welterweight pile – behind surging contender, Gilbert ‘Durinho’ Burns, and a spot ahead of Masvidal. Masvidal has explained how he isn’t willing to meet with Covington in his next outing, as both look to earn their respective second title tilts against Usman.

In April, Covington explained how he would return to “end” the career of former welterweight kingpin, Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley – another former teammate of his. St. Louis native, Woodley last made the Octagon walk at UFC Fight Night Vegas at the end of May, dropping a decision shutout to the aforenoted, Burns.

Like he’s now done with Masvidal – Covington explained in the past how Woodley would “quit” during wrestling practice and sparring sessions with him when both men flew the American Top Team flag.
