A flyweight matchup between recent winner, Cortney ‘Cast Iron’ Casey, and Gillian ‘The Savage’ Robertson is expected to take place at a UFC event on June 20th.
Arizona native, Casey – will make a lightning-quick turnaround – following her armbar victory over Mara Romero Barella on May 16th. in Jacksonville, Florida. 25-year-old prospect, Robertson is expected to make her premier Octagon walk, since her October defeat to fellow upstart, Maycee Barber. News of the slated matchup was first reported by ESPN reporter, Ariel Helwani. MMAFNL’s, Joe Devlin confirmed the event’s date.
Casey, 33, will make her twelfth Octagon appearance on June 20th. – following a promotional bow back in July of 2018. After a difficult start against future 125-pound title challenger, Joanne Calderwood, and Seo Hee Ham with a pair of decision defeats, Casey managed a duo of triumphs with victories over Cristina Stanciu, and Randa Markos. Against former strawweight title hopeful, Cláudia Gadelha – Casey lost a decision.
A win over Jessica Aguilar was next – before another string of two defeats, to Felice Herrig, and Michelle Waterson. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt would then take out, Angela Hill, and the aforementioned Borella – sandwiched between a unanimous decision defeat to talented grappler. Cynthia Calvillo.
Ontario prospect, Robertson – has managed four victories and two defeats, since her first UFC appearance back in December of 2017. The American Top Team trainee has managed four stoppages to boot – finishing Emily Whitmire, Molly McCann, Veronica Macedo, and Sarah Frota. Robertson was slightly derailed with a late first-round armbar defeat to Mayra Bueno Silva in her premier promotional blemish. In common opponent, Calvillo – Robertson was also bested, losing via a unanimous decision on the regional circuit.
