A mouth-watering featherweight meeting between top-ten contenders, Josh Emmett, and ‘Hurricane’ Shane Burgos is currently in the works for a UFC event on June 20th.
#8 ranked challenger, Emmett has rebounded in brutal fashion from his knockout defeat to Jeremy Stephens back in 2018, to take a pair of knockout stoppages of his own, against Michael ‘The Menace’ Johnson, and Mirsad Bektić. #10 ranked contender, Burgos has won three straight since his premier professional defeat to Calvin Kattar – most recently stopping Makwan ‘Mr. Finland’ Amirkhani at UFC 244 in November of last year. News of the expected pairing was initially reported by ESPN writer, Ariel Helwani. MMA DNA reporter, Marcel Dorff confirmed the date.
Since his return to 145-pounds three years ago, Team Alpha MMA trainee, Emmett – has lodged four victories, with his only blemish coming against the aforementioned, Stephens. After a unanimous decision win over Felipe Arantes, the 35-year-old was drafted into a catchweight bout after a botched weight-cut, scoring an infamous knockout over former title chaser, Ricardo Lamas.
Making his promotional bow back in May of 2016 – Emmett has managed other victories over Jon Tuck, and Scott Holtzman. Emmett was tentatively scheduled to meet with promotional mainstay, Edson Barboza on May 2nd. – until the postponement of a UFC Fight Night Oklahoma City event.
Tiger Schulmann product, Burgos will look to make it four victories in four, following his one and only career mishap. Afterwards – he managed triumphs over Kurt Holobaugh, and veteran challenger, Cub Swanson. Arriving under the organization’s banner back in December of 2016, Burgos managed a similar win streak which he’s currently riding, of three fights – besting Tiago Trator, talented grappler, Charles Rosa, and Godofredo Pepey.
His prospect versus prospect tilt with the previously noted, Kattar – resulted in his first loss in eleven outings. Following his victory over Amirkhani – the 29-year-old penned a new four-fight deal with the promotion.
