Rumors had been buzzing in some circles about a possible heavyweight foray for Rountree against the controversial Greg Hardy. Rountree indicated in an Instagram post that he was quite perturbed by a report on this fight that some outlets circulated.
“It’s fake news. I’m actually upset with the reporter. I don’t even know his name but I’m going to post his name. Because he reached out to me and I specifically told him ‘don’t be putting out stories that aren’t true’. One of the stories that is true is that I was offered a fight at heavyweight to go up. The second thing is, I know that it’s a big jump. So I’m doing everything possible to make sure it’s the right thing.”

Rountree’s feelings on this whole saga were palpable throughout the video address.
He continued, “It’s a bit frustrating that there’s so many different variables to me fighting right now. Especially being in Thailand right now. Right now, I cannot travel. I don’t know if I can come back here. I don’t know if my coaches can come back here without quarantining once they leave the country. Passport things; there’s just so many other things that are keeping me from actually confirming to fight.”
There are a lot of facets that create an uncertain landscape for Rountree at the moment. Much still needs to be done before Khalil Rountree can return to the Octagon. Rountree stated, “It’s nowhere close to confirmed. I haven’t even talked in-depth with the matchmakers or my agent or anybody. It’s upsetting. It puts a lot of pressure.”
Rountree did not dispute his plans for a division switch though. Just the timeline for when this jump will be taking place. Rountree quipped, “As far as me going up to heavyweight, yeah I think that it’s an idea and a decision that I’ve chose to give a shot. Right now I am training to have my last fight at heavyweight. Who knows what goes on after that?”
