A flyweight meeting between promotional newcomers, Mariya Agapova, and Melissa Gatto is expected to feature at a UFC Fight Night event on June 13th. – with a location and venue yet to be announced by the UFC. The bout was originally scheduled to take place at UFC Fight Night Kazakhstan, however, the event is slated to be relocated.
Agapova joins the 125-pound division following a two-fight stint with Invicta FC, where she managed a duo of victories. Gatto will attempt to make her Octagon debut for the third time since her signature with the organization last year. The Brazilian was set to meet Talita Bernardo on short-notice back in May of last year but was forced from the pairing due to injury.
Following the fall out of that contest, Gatto was set to meet with Julia Avila in July but was notified of a potential anti-doping violation by USADA, after a test sample she provided resulted in a positive for the banned substance, furosemide. Gatto is eligible to return to active-competition on June 5th. approaching. News of the expected pairing was first reported by Combate reporter, Raphael Marinho.
Kazakhstan native, Agapova, who’s based in Coconut Creek, Florida – featured on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series back in August of last year, losing a unanimous decision to Tracy Cortez – who went on to link up in the promotion’s flyweight rankings. Agapova managed to rebound from the defeat to Cortez – with two first-round finishes of Alexa Connors, and Marilia Santos in the space of just a month. The submission specialist holds an 8-1 record, with her only blemish coming against the aforementioned, Cortez.
24-year-old prospect, Gatto, has maintained an undefeated record, having spent her entire professional career competing on the regional scene in her native Brazil. Gatto, who plys her trade in her home country, holds an undefeated record of 6-0-2, with her most recent victory coming against Karol Rosa at Nação Cyborg 3 in September of 2018.
