A bad-blooded welterweight grudge-match between one-time interim titleholder, Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington, and former division kingpin, Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley is in the works to feature at a UFC event on September 19th. – with the UFC APEX facility in Las Vegas, the current frontrunner to host the event.

Brash trash-talker, Covington will look to return to winning ways, following a fifth-round knockout loss to common opponent, Kamaru Usman at UFC 245, in his first undisputed title tilt in the promotion. Roufusport trainee, Woodley has dropped his last two Octagon appearances, with his most recent defeat coming opposite surging challenger, Gilbert ‘Durinho’ Burns at UFC Fight Night Vegas on May 30th. Former champion, Woodley announced the pairing on his official Instagram account.

In his first outing since his split from longtime facility, American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida – polarizing all-rounder, Covington will look to settle his longstanding rivalry with decorated contender, Woodley. Since his initial rise back in 2017 – the Clovis native has targeted a meeting with Woodley, back when the Missouri native held the welterweight crown.

Prior to his aforementioned defeat to Usman, the 32-year-old had bested the likes of former champion, Robbie Lawler, one-time lightweight best, Rafael dos Anjos, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu icon, Demian Maia.

Dropping the 170-pound championship to the aforenoted, Usman in March of last year, Woodley was expected to originally make his Octagon return against perennial contender, Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards in the main event of UFC Fight Night London this March, until the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced the shelving of the entire event. Meeting another grappling talent, Burns in May instead, Woodley failed to ever get started in a disappointing performance.

After stunning the above-mentioned Lawler with an opening-round knockout at UFC 201 in July of 2016, Woodley would go on to lodge four title defences against, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson (x2), the previously noted, Maia, and then streaking welterweight challenger, Darren ‘The Gorilla’ Till.
