An intriguing welterweight meeting between veteran fan-favourite, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, and fellow finisher, Niko ‘The Hybrid’ Price is currently targeted to feature at a UFC event on September 19th. – with the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada leading the way to host the card.
37-year-old Octagon mainstay, Cerrone will make his third UFC walk of the annum, following a forty-second knockout defeat to former two-weight world champion, Conor McGregor at UFC 246 in January, and a unanimous decision rematch defeat to former lightweight best, Anthony Pettis at UFC 249 in May.
Also looking to return to winning way’s – Floridian knockout artist, Price dropped a knockout defeat of his own when paired with Brazilian contender, Vicente Luque in another re-run at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville also in May. ESPN reporter, Brett Okamoto was first to report the promotion’s intentions to match the two.
In the midst of a four-fight slide, Denver standout, Cerrone dropped prior defeats to one-time interim best, Tony Ferguson, and then current interim titleholder, Justin Gaethje before the turn of this year.
The BMF Ranch proprietor recently made an impressive run in a return to 155-pounds in January of last year – finishing upcoming prospect, Alexander Hernandez with a patented head kick, before battling to a dominant unanimous judging win over Al Iaquinta. Since his return to welterweight in January, Cerrone has dropped two consecutive defeats.
Price, 30 – will make his twelfth Octagon appearance since his promotional debut at UFC 207 in December of 2016. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt made his bow with an eye-catching arm-triangle victory over Brandon Thatch, before notching other wins against Alan Jouban, George Sullivan, Randy Brown, Tim Means, and James Vick.
Coming unstuck twice against the gritty, Luque – Cape Coral native, Price has also found himself on the wrong end of the win column opposite devastating strikers, Abdul Razak Alhassan, and Geoff Neal in his four-year Octagon stint.
