Report – Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor III Headlines UFC 264 On July 10th.

A potential lightweight title-eliminator between former division gold holders, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier and ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor has been booked to take main event honours on July 10th. at UFC 264 — with a location or venue for the event yet to be determined by the promotion.

Rounding out their trilogy with a rubber-match, Poirier scored the most recent win between the two, handing former two-weight champion, McGregor his first professional knockout loss in mixed martial arts back in January at UFC 257. 


Back in 2014 during the pair’s featherweight excursions, McGregor stopped Poirier, again handing the Lafayette his first professional defeat via strikes with a knockout win with just over a minute and a half elapsed in the opening round. With surging Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, Charles Oliveira headlining UFC 262 on May 15th. in Houston, Texas against former three-time Bellator lightweight best, Michael Chandler for the vacant lightweight championship, the winner of Poirier vs. McGregor III will likely book themselves to square off against the victor of that Toyota Centre main event.

Scoring his second consecutive victory since a September 2019 title unification defeat to the since retired, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Poirier maintained his #1 rank at 155-pounds with his stoppage over McGregor, adding to a June unanimous decision win over division striker, Dan Hooker.

Suffering his second defeat in three Octagon outings, McGregor dropped his first career knockout loss to Poirier, having headlined UFC 246 the prior January against Donald Cerrone in a welterweight headliner, stopping the veteran with a forty-second high-kick and follow up strikes.

McGregor’s most recent lightweight win came on his division debut back in November of 2016 — where he became the first in promotional history to lift two-titles simultaneously via a one-sided second round knockout win over Eddie Alvarez.
