Report: Former UFC lightweight Abel Trujillo Sentenced to Two Year Probation in Child Sexual Exploitation Case

Former UFC lightweight contender, Abel ‘Killa’ Trujillo has been sentenced to two years probation this week in relation to a child sexual exploitation case in which he admitted to sending indecent text messages to an underage girl. Prosecutors involved in the hearing dropped three other felony charges against the former 155-pound wrestler.

Trujillo, 36, was arrested by police in July after a search warrant was received to examine Trujillo’s mobile device, in which police found, “dozens of photos of nude young women“. The North Carolina native would plead guilty to a misdemeanour charge of promoting obscenity earlier this March. News of Trujillo’s sentencing was initially reported by Colorado outlet, 9news.

After initial contact by police, Trujillo admitted to engaging in conversations with a number of “females under the age of 18 (-years-old). Investigating officers were tipped off by an underage woman who informed them that she had been contacted on social media by Trujillo – who would begin sending her indecent images and videos of himself masturbating over both Instagram and Snapchat.

The woman explained how she would go on to block Trujillo, who initially made contact with her after she had accepted a request from him. While initially happy to receive attention from Trujillo, who she referred to as a “celebrity“, the woman explained how she became uncomfortable when the latter would speak sexually toward her.

The indecent images sent to the underage woman were verified by police as images that had come from Trujillo, citing a match on “the body style, tattoos, and skin tone“.

Before the prosecutor’s decision to drop three felony charges, Trujillo was facing a $100,000 fine for each felony disorder as well as/or eighteen months in jail. The felony charges in question were listed as, attempted sexual exploitation of a child, sexual exploitation of a child (self/publish), and promotion of obscenity to a minor.

During his eleven fight stint under the UFC’s banner, Trujillo would amass a 6-4-(1) promotional record. In high-profile defeats, Trujillo lost to former interim champion, Tony Ferguson, and current lightweight titleholder, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Trujillo made his final appearance under the UFC’s scrutiny at UFC Fight Night Winnipeg in December 2017 – dropping a unanimous decision defeat to John Makdessi, after a D’Arce loss to James Vick the February prior.

Trujillo was scheduled to fight opposite former Bellator lightweight champion, Will Brooks at a Battlefield FC event last July, until the bout was shelved when details began to emerge surrounding his arrest.
