Report – Israel Adesanya, Marvin Vettori Booked To Rematch At UFC 263 On June 12th

Adesanya and Vettori will run back their April 2018 split decision showdown on June 12th. at UFC 263 — with title honours up for grabs.

Reigning UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya will run back an April 2018 matchup with the streaking, Marvin Vettori at UFC 263 on June 12th — this time, with undisputed middleweight spoils on the line. As of writing a location or venue for the pay-per-view showcase has yet to be determined by the promotion. 

Headlining UFC 259 in March, Adesanya suffered his premier professional mixed martial arts loss — unsuccessfully attempting to pry the undisputed light heavyweight championship from Jan Blachowicz. Struggling with the Pole’s wrestling ability in the latter rounds, Adesanya dropped a unanimous decision loss.

In the midst of a five-fight winning spree, Trento native, Vettori headlined UFC on ABC 2 onApril 10th. — tackling short-notice replacement, Kevin Holland over five rounds.

Demonstrating his often overlooked grappling and wrestling ability, Vettori managed a largely one-sided unanimous judging win of his own. Combate reporter, Ana Hissa was first to report the news of the championship rematch. 

Nigerian-Kiwi striker, Adesanya claimed the undisputed middleweight title against recent UFC Vegas 24 victor, Robert Whittaker in a September 2019 unification clash, stopping the then-champion with a second-round knockout.

Featuring twice in the Octagon last year, Adesanya managed a largely forgettable unanimous decision win over upcoming Bellator MMA debutante, Yoel Romero — prior to a spectacular, comfortable second frame knockout win over Paulo Costa at UFC 253 on ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Vettori, 27, immediately called for a title rematch against Adesanya off the back of his unanimous decision win over Holland at the beginning of the month, suggesting a September showdown against the counter striker. 

Off the back of his UFC Fight Night Glendale split judging loss to Adesanya, Vettori notched consecutive wins over Cezar Ferreira, Andrew Sanchez, Karl Roberson, Jack Hermansson, and the above-mentioned, Holland. 

UFC 263 takes place on June 12th. from a venue or location that is yet to be determined. Adesanya vs. Vettori II joins a flyweight championship rematch between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno.
