UFC welterweight contender, Khamzat ‘Borz’ Chimaev was reportedly involved in a single-car accident in which a Mercedes-Benz SUV, which was gifted to him by Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov crashed into a barrier.

Chimaev reportedly emerged from the accident unscathed without injuries, however, substantial damage was done to the vehicle as a result of the collision. The AllStars MMA trainee was reportedly gifted the vehicle by the above-mentioned, Kadyrov during a visit to Chechnya back in January of this year.

In a video clip posted on a Chechen news account’s Instagram, the caption details how Chimaev suffered no injuries in the accident; “Khamzat Chimaev had an accident yesterday,” the caption reads as per BloodyElbow. “Khamzat himself was not injured.

Yet to feature in the Octagon since UFC Vegas 11 last September, Chimaev was removed from a pair of high-profile, potential welterweight title-eliminator clashes with Leon Edwards amid a positive COVID-19 test result back in December of last year, resulting in some lasting health effects.

Appearing to call time on his career, Chimaev posted on his social media alluding to a retirement from professional mixed martial arts, maintaining that the novel coronavirus was not an easy malady to overcome.

UFC president, Dana White maintained that he still expected a summer return for the undefeated prospect, detailing how he had been prescribed a course of the steroidal medication, prednisone, and that he was supposed to be taking medical advice from doctors to avoid training.

In a statement released by the above-mentioned, Kadyrov, the Chechen leader detailed how he has spoken with Chimaev personally, in which he reminded the now #15 ranked welterweight contender how important an influence he had with the younger generation in Chechnya.

Whilst an opponent for Chimaev’s expected Octagon return has yet to be determined, Neil Magny was briefly suggested as an opponent for Chimaev, prior to his rescheduling against Geoff Neal. Former Strikeforce and WEC welterweight titleholder, Nick Diaz has also been linked to a return to the UFC for the first time since 2014, with the aforenoted, White failing to rule out the possibility of a battle between him and Chimaev.
