With the recent positive COVID-19 test result of light heavyweight veteran, Glover Teixeira – we’ve got a new main event at UFC Fight Night Vegas 10 on September 12th. Originally taking co-headlining honours, a strawweight pairing between former Invicta FC titleholders, Michelle ‘The Karate Hottie’ Waterson, and Angela ‘Overkill’ Hill will now take curtain-closing distinction, over five-rounds.
The aforenoted, Teixeira is also slated to meet with recent title challenger, Thiago ‘Marreta’ Santos at a UFC Fight Night on ‘Fight Island’ on October 3rd. – in a three-round bout beneath a reworked headliner at bantamweight between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana.
Hoping to return to the win-column, Albuquerque favourite, Waterson last featured at UFC 249 in Jacksonville in May – dropping a razor-thin decision defeat to inaugural Invicta FC and UFC strawweight gold holder, Carla ‘Cookie Monster’ Esparza.
Also looking for a route back to winning ways, the always active, Hill also featured in Jacksonville in May, at a Fight Night event – dropping another close judging defeat to former title challenger, Cláudia Gadelha in a disputed decision. News of the reworked main event was initially reported by ESPN reporter, Ariel Helwani.
Prior to her defeat to Esparza, former atomweight best, Waterson headlined UFC Fight Night Tampa in August last year, dropping a defeat to former 115-pound queen, Joanna Jędrzejczyk.
The judging loss to the Polish Muay Thai ace marked Jackson-Wink MMA staple, Waterson’s first in three, following wins over Cortney Casey, Felice Herrig, and one-time title chaser, Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
Approaching her remarkable fourth outing of this year alone, Maryland Muay Thai practitioner, Hill looks to rebound following a trio of wins over Loma Lookboonmee, Hannah Cifers, and Ariane Carnelossi. The Ultimate Fighter alum will also score her first headlining event under the UFC’s banner with next Saturday’s walk.
