Report: Tony Ferguson vs. Charles Oliveira Added To UFC 256 on December 12th.

What another incredible piece of matchmaking. A massive lightweight affair between former interim champion, Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson, and streaking submission specialist, Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira has been booked for UFC 256 on December 12th. – from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Continously linked with a pairing opposite recent promotional signing, former three-time Bellator lightweight best, Michael Chandler, both Ferguson and the Missouri native seemed to hit obstacles in regards to the logistics of their matchup. Ferguson was keen on a December 12th. date, while Chandler had asked to feature in the co-main event of UFC 257 on January 23rd.


Hoping to rebound from his first defeat in a staggering twelve-fight unbeaten run, fan-favourite finisher, Ferguson featured against fellow former interim champion, Justin ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje at UFC 249 in May on short-notice, dropping a damaging fifth-round knockout loss.

With an eye-catching seven-fight win streak, Oliveira most recently headlined UFC Fight Night Brasilia in March, stopping common-foe, Kevin ‘The Mo’Town Phenom’ Lee with a third-round guillotine win. The submission stoppage came as Oliveira’s stunning fourteenth in the UFC. News of the massive lightweight pairing was first reported by ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto

Ferguson, who makes his eighteenth Octagon appearance since 2011, holds a staggering 15-2 promotional résumé to boot. 

Apart of his division tying twelve fight undefeated streak, Ferguson had notably dispatched the likes of Gleison Tibau, Josh Thomson, Edson Barboza, Rafael dos Anjos, Lee, Anthony Pettis, and Donald Cerrone.

In the midst of a career-best run of his own, Chute Boxe Diego Lima trainee, Oliveira has finally found his lightweight groove, ten-years deep into his organizational run. 
From twenty-nine career wins, Oliveira has notched a further nineteen submission stoppages, so a pairing with someone of Ferguson’s 10th. Planet Jiu-Jitsu ilk promises some very exciting potential scrambles. 

Prior to his win over Lee, the still only 31-year-old Oliveira has bested the likes of Jared Gordan, Nik Lentz, David Teymur, Jim Miller, and Clay Guida in his division rise.
