Both fighters are feeling each other out early. Ivanov has deceptive hand speed, and is landing the cleaner punches. Sakai has the edge in the kicking department as he searches for his range. Ivanov presses forward, they spend time against the cage. Sakai lands some nice leg kicks near the end of round one.
Ivanov got the best of it with his hands at the beginning of round 2. Sakai chopped away at Ivanov’s legs. Sakai controls range, winning in the clinch, he starts to wear Ivanov down against the cage. Sakai punished Ivanov with leg kicks. Sakai starts to turn it on with less than a minute to go as Ivanov lands a takedown but can’t capitalize with strikes.
Round 3, Sakai picks up the pace, landing some nice combinations, mixing it up with hands and feet. Momentum on Sakai’s side, he is the fresher fighter. Ivanov has never been knocked out. Great dirty boxing by Sakai against the cage, Sakai holds the fence to avoid a takedown with less than two minutes to go in the fight.
