Getting that call from the UFC is something many fighters dream about but very few actually bring to fruition. With plans to fight in Dana White’s Contender Series later this year it would seem Brandon ‘Raw Dawg’ Royval has caught the eye of the UFC president. This would be made apparent when the 27 year old fighter received his call to step in on short notice to square off on the upcoming UFC card featuring Tyrone Woodley Vs. Gilbert Burns scheduled for May 30th.

Starting the path towards champion status as a young kid, Royval began training with Marc Montoya at age 16. To say his coach is proud of him would be an understatement. Just as quick as contracts would allow, the team at Factory X Muay Thai announced via Facebook that Royval would face Tim Elliot in his UFC debut at the end of the month.

Elliot is a UFC flyweight veteran currently ranked #11. Tearing his ACL in June of 2018 and making his UFC return in October of 2019 has proved difficult for Elliot. Having lost his only two scheduled fights since his surgery, Elliot will have his hands full when he faces the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner Brandon Royval.

The talent of Royval was put on display most recently when he fought for the LFA Flyweight title where he submitted Nate Williams in a mere 23 seconds–an LFA record. Technically speaking nobody has ever finished Royval, he is an undefeated amateur and his only professional losses (4) came down to the judge’s decisions. The complexity in which Royval transitions between submission attempts is a sight yet to be seen by most people.

Come March 30th, MMA fans will all be in for a treat when Royval steps inside the cage. Chasing that dream of fighting in the UFC is commonplace for the team at Factory X. Training around guys like Alex Smith (#6 UFC Lightheavyweight) and James Krausse it would seem Royval is part of a brotherhood that breeds success. This was surely the case for Royval’s other teammate Youssef Zalal who successfully debuted in the UFC Feb 8th also on short notice. Staying fight ready has granted Royval the ultimate opportunity to prove he belongs in the UFC where he is sure to shine.
