Sinead Kavanagh is slated to headline Bellator 271 on November 12. from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida — in a challenge to current undisputed featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg’s throne.
Kavanagh, who is currently in the midst of a two-fight winning spree, headlines her first event under the Scott Coker-led Bellator MMA banner — with the promotional president, confirming the matchup during an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour this evening.
The 7-4 Dublin native last featured in October of last year at Bellator Euro Series 9 — taking a unanimous decision victory over Katharina Lehner. The victory followed a prior knockout success opposite Olga Rubin for the multi-time All Ireland national boxing champion.
Attempting to secure the third successful defense of her Bellator featherweight crown, the dominant champion, Cyborg last defended in May — taking a late fifth round knockout victory over fellow UFC alum, Leslie Smith in a rematch success.
The pound-for-pound #1 rank force debuted in Bellator back in January 2020, taking the undisputed crown from recent PFL signing, Julia Budd in an eventual fourth round knockout win — before successfully defending against both Arlene Blencowe and the aforenoted, Smith. Cyborg is also a former UFC, Invicta FC, and Strikeforce undisputed featherweight champion, and is recognized widely as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. The Bellator 271 event in the ‘Sunshine State’ is slated to air on the Showtime network.
