With 15,077 fans in attendance, UFC returned to T-Mobile Arena with two world championship bouts. Undefeated middleweight champion Israel Adesanya faced No. 3 ranked contender Yoel Romero in a 5 round bout. Main Card

Israel Adesanya (And Still) defeated Yoel Romero via unanimous decision

Israel Adesanya: “After the fight, I was really frustrated that my dance partner didn’t want to dance. A guy like Kelvin Gastelum, he brought the fight. Robert Whittaker, he brought the fight. It takes two to tango, so if I’m trying to fight and you’re just standing there like, “c’mon, c’mon” that’s stupid. I took his best shot in the first round, that was probably the only round that I gave him. He has a good poker face, he’s playing but his legs didn’t lie. I’ve never been in a boring fight, I was expecting more of a fight from him. Even in the fifth round, I thought he would be desperate and bring the fight and I just kept waiting for the surge. Takes two to tango and I was the only one willing to dance. If you want to come get the belt, come get the belt. I’m not going to come to you, are you stupid? I’m happy with my focus. That’s how he catches a lot of people – they get bored. My coaches told me I needed 25 minutes of focus and I stayed focused the whole time. I won the fight at the end of the day, I did my best. On a bad night, I still beat the No. 3 guy in the world.”

Beneil Dariush defeated Drakkar Klose via knockout

Beneil Dariush: “Feels great to get the win, I thought it was going to be a submission, but I’ll take that too. I had his back forever, so in the second round my legs were a little wobbly and I knew I had to use my arms more. I think I have to work on getting my chokes in with the gloves, it’s too easy to grab my fingers and defend, so I have to figure that out. I knew I was tired in the second round, but I was confident in my cardio and recovery, so I just kept moving forward. He hit me pretty hard, but I wasn’t hurt. I just have this problem where if you hit me, then I’m fine with trading and seeing what happens. Probably not the best habit, but I’ll work on that. I honestly didn’t know that last shot connected so well, but once I saw him go down I knew it was over.”

Neil Magny defeated Li Jingliang via unanimous decision

Neil Magny: “It feels great to finally get back in there and win. Over the last year now, I’ve been finding myself in a real down place. I’ve put that all behind me now and came out on top tonight, so it feels great. In a weird way, this time off has been a blessing. It allowed me to spend a lot of time with family, even grow my family back at home. I also made some changes in my camp and made sure we were doing everything as well as possible. We went back and looked at my last five fights, the wins and losses, and really looked at where I could improve. One of the biggest things we found was foot positioning, I feel like we addressed that well tonight. Another thing is pressure, I wanted to sit back and calculate a little bit more, so it’s been improvement all around. I think this gets me right back in the mix. The division has been shaken up a bit since I’ve been gone, but I showed tonight that I can jump back in there with the best of them, so I’d love to jump back in there with Chiesa.”

Alex Oliveira defeated Max Griffin via split decision

Alex Oliveira: “I knew I had won the first round, I knew he had won the second one, but I know I had the third round, even though it was really tight. I was confident, but you never know until they raise your arm. I know that he was feeling my kicks and when I got him down he was complaining a lot, so I know that he didn’t want to be there. I proved to myself tonight that I have the capacity to be one of the best in the UFC. 2019 was a hard year for me, thank God I started 2020 on the right foot. Dana, give me more fights.”

ESPN Preliminary Card

Sean O’Malley defeated Jose Quinonez via TKO at 2:02 of round 1

Sean O’Malley: “I felt great in there, it definitely doesn’t feel like it’s been two years, but it’s good to be back. I’ve been through a lot to get here, I had two surgeries, two pulled fights, it was a lot. I didn’t know how I would feel making that walk, I tried to picture it in my head so many times, but you never know until you are out there. I felt great, it felt right. I think I’m the best MMA striker out there. I know a lot of people won’t agree with that because they haven’t really got to see it, but I truly believe I am the best MMA striker. I can throw anything from either stance and I have so many tools, especially when I’m out there with people that I know I am way better than. I never had a consistent strength and conditioning coach in between camps, but I have that now and I feel way better. I’ve put on good muscle and I can really tell. I trained so hard and so much for this, it’s hard to put into words just how much all of this means. I’d like to come back as quickly as possible now really, I’m not hurt, I’m in shape, so whatever they call with.”

Gerald Meerschaert defeated Deron Winn via rear naked choke at 2:13 of round 3

Gerald Meerschaert: “I’m not overall thrilled with my performance, but I’m happy with the win. Putting him away was good, he did catch me, he’s a tough guy, but it feels great to get back in there and get another submission. This is a big confidence boost for me, it lets me and everyone else know that I belong and that I’m here to stay. I’ll see how long it takes me to heal up and then I’ll fight as much as I can. I just got back into the win column, so I’m going to take my time and play this right.”

Danaa Batgerel: “Feels great to get my first UFC win. I believed that I could win this fight, I’m very happy. I wasn’t nervous at all, I was ready for this. I’m very proud that I was on such a big card and I’m happy to finally fight in the U.S. I would love to fight more often and show the world who I am. I love this sport and training, so hopefully you will see me soon again.”
