A high-stakes welterweight bout between the #5 ranked contender, Vicente Luque and the #6 rated challenger, Michael Chiesa has been booked for UFC 265 on August 7th — with a location or venue for the event yet to be determined by the promotion.
Making his second Octagon walk of the year, Luque featured on the main card of UFC 260 in March, stopping former undisputed champion, Tyron Woodley in a hugely entertaining one round fight — finishing the St. Louis-born former gold holder with a Brabo choke.
Headlining UFC Fight Island 8 on short-notice in January, former lightweight contender, Chiesa continued his blistering form at 170lbs with a shutout unanimous decision win over welterweight mainstay, Neil Magny over the course of five rounds. News of the eye-catching showdown was first reported by reporter, Chris Prawdzik.
Adding former champion, Woodley to a now three-fight undefeated run, New Jersey-born finisher, Luque has managed finishes over both Randy Brown and Niko Price as part of his three-bout undefeated streak.
A 16-fight Octagon veteran, Luque has managed to score other notable Octagon triumphs over the likes of Belal Muhammad, Jalin Turner, Bryan Barberena, and Mike Perry — amassing 11 knockout wins and a further seven submission stoppages over the course of his 28-fight professional career.
Chiesa, the victor of The Ultimate Fighter 15 back in June of 2012, has amassed a fourfight undefeated run since his move from the lightweight ranks back in December of 2018.
A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt, Chiesa has scored 11 submission wins, and during his current run, has stopped former interim UFC welterweight champion, Carlos Condit, as well as picking up unanimous decision victories over The Ultimate Fighter 1 winner, Diego Sanchez, as well as former undisputed lightweight titleholder, Rafael dos Anjos.
UFC 265 takes place on August 7th — with a bantamweight title matchup between two-weight champion, Amanda Nunes and challenger, Julianna Pena set for the pay-per-view event.
