A UFC strawweight title rematch between undisputed titleholder, ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas and former champion, Zhang ‘Magnum’ Weili has been added to UFC 268 on November 6. — with the event slated to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Namajunas and Weili meet for the second time this year following a championship showdown in the co-headlining bout of UFC 261 back in April — where two-time titleholder, Namajunas clinched gold with a stunning opening minute high-kick knockout win over the defending queen, Weili.
Undefeated in her last two Octagon walks, Trevor Wittman trainee, Namajunas managed to put herself back in title contention with a UFC 251 rematch success over former champion and two-time foe, Jessica Andrade back on ‘Fight Island’ in July of last year.
For Weili, the April knockout loss to Namajunas marked her first defeat under the UFC’s banner, following a close split decision title defense against Joanna Jedrzejczyk back at UFC 248 in March of last year in the consensus Fight of the Year. The UFC confirmed the title rematch of Namajunas and Weili on the broadcast of UFC Vegas 35.
Boasting a professional record of 10-4, Namajunas herself holds a pair of victories over common-foe, Jedrzejczyk, as well as prior notable victories against Michelle Waterson, Tecia Torres, Paige VanZant, Angela Hill, and Emily Kagan.
Hebei native, Weili has competed five times under the Dana White-led UFC banner — lodging victories over Danielle Taylor, Jessica Aguilar, as well as common-opposition, Torres, and Andrade.
UFC 268 takes place on November 6. from Madison Square Garden with a welterweight title rematch between reigning kingpin, Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman and the #1 ranked former interim champion, Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington slated to headline the pay-per-view event.
