Reigning UFC lightweight champion, Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira has confirmed his UFC 269 headliner with former interim champion, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier — as the Brazilian attempts to lodge the first successful title defense of his undisputed reign on December 11.
Oliveira, the victor of his last eight consecutive outings, clinched the vacant lightweight crown in the main event of UFC 262 in May of this year — headlining a Toyota Center event in Houston, Texas.

The Sao Paulo native survived a late opening round scare in the form of a knockdown at the fence, before exploding with a check left hook of his own early in the opening seconds of the second round, dropping former three-time Bellator MMA lightweight kingpin Michael Chandler before swarming and stopping with strikes at the fence.

The victory came as Oliveira’s eighth on the bounce, following a splendid 2020 which saw him return to Brasilia to take a main event slot against former interim title challenger, Kevin Lee — whom he stopped with a taut third round guillotine.

Co-headlining UFC 256 in December, Oliveira turned in a three round unanimous decision shutout triumph over former interim champion, Tony Ferguson. Oliveira is also the most prolific submission artist in the history of the UFC, securing a stunning 14 separate stoppages.

Taking to his official Instagram account, Oliveira confirmed his UFC 269 headliner against Poirier — after MMA Fighting reported recently that the pairing was earmarked for the December 11. pay-per-view event.

Family now and for real let’s defend what is ours,” Oliveira posted. “On December 11th we will go to war and with faith in God the victory will be ours.

Oliveira’s confirmation of the bout comes off the back of reports detailing how the aforenoted challenger, Poirier had put pen to paper on a deal to clash with the defending champion in an eagerly anticipated title affair.

The Lafayette native is a former interim lightweight champion, and is currently in the midst of an eye-catching three-fight winning run — which includes a unanimous decision win over Dan Hooker, as well as a pair of victories over three-time foe and former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor.

Poirier became the first in professional mixed martial arts to stop McGregor with strikes at UFC 257 in January, before taking a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO win over the 33-year-old in July at UFC 264 — after McGregor suffered a fracture to his left tibia at the end of the frame.
