Former UFC featherweight kingpin, Jose Aldo is in line for his third Octagon walk of the year — this time taking main event honors at a UFC Fight Night event on December 4. — tackling the surging #4 ranked contender, Rob Font. At the time of publication, a venue or location for the event has yet to be determined by the organization.
Undefeated in his last two Octagon walks, one-time bantamweight title challenger managed an eye-catching unanimous decision victory over his fellow Brazilian, Pedro Munhoz at UFC 265 in August in a co-headlining bout at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
For Font, he headlined for the first time in his UFC tenure back in May — handing former division best, Cody Garbrandt a rather one-sided unanimous judging loss in the main event of UFC Vegas 21. The victory came as Font’s fourth consecutively. Marcelo Russio from Combate was first to report the news of the main event bout.
2-2 at the bantamweight limit since his move to the division back in December 2019, Aldo dropped a close decision loss to Marlon Moraes in his divisional bow, before clashing with former champion, Petr Yan in a vacant bantamweight title back in July 2020 at UFC 251 — suffering an eventual fifth round ground strikes stoppage loss.
Scoring his first victory in the division last December, Aldo co-headlined UFC Vegas 17 against Marlon Vera — besting the Ecuador native before then taking an impressive judging win over Munhoz last night in The Lone Star State.
Undefeated in his previous four outings under the UFC’s banner, Massachusetts native, Font added Garbrandt to an impressive run, as well as scoring his ninth UFC victory.
The New England Cartel mainstay also met with Moraes during his career, handing him an opening round knockout loss prior to his win over Garbrandt, after taking out both Ricky Simon and current Bellator MMA bantamweight best, Sergio Pettis with unanimous decision wins.
