Another UFC event has been forced to alter it’s schedule due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Following it’s Fight Night counterpart in Columbus, Ohio – UFC Fight Night Portland in Oregon on April 11th. has been relocated to the UFC Apex in Las Vegas as a precautionary measure due to the ongoing outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. News of the relocation was initially reported by TSN reporter, Aaron Bronsteter.
The event relocation follows UFC Fight Night Columbus which has been altered – as well as UFC Fight Night Brasília which will take place at Ginásio Nilson Nelson this weekend, behind closed doors, and closed to the public. The event is scheduled to be headlined by a heavyweight clash between former title challenger, Alistair Overeem, and the returning, Walt Harris.
The organization have also taken measures to ensure the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas is also sanitary to allow fighters to continue training at the state of the art facility. With the ongoing spread of the virus – it seems likely the promotion will continue to relocate events where possible, and also hold card’s behind closed doors to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
