A potential UFC flyweight title-eliminator between the #2 ranked contender, and one-time title challenger, the #4 rated, Alex Perez has been added to UFC Vegas 33 on July 31st — with the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada set to house the Fight Night event.

Hoping to earn a rematch with newly-minted flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno, the undefeated surging contender, Askarov took home a unanimous decision win over four-time title challenger, Joseph Benavidez back in March of this year at UFC 259.

For the #4 ranked, Perez, an injury ruled him from a UFC 263 matchup opposite Matt Schnell back in April in Houston, Texas — with his most recent Octagon walk coming against former champion, Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255 on short notice in November, where he suffered an opening round guillotine loss. News of the potential title-eliminator between Askarov and Perez was first reported by BJPENN.com reporter, Cole Shelton

Askarov, a former ACB flyweight champion debuted in the UFC back at UFC Fight Night Mexico City in September of 2019, battling with the above-mentioned recently minted titleholder, Moreno to a split draw in his organizational bow.

In his three Octagon walks since, the 28-year-old Dagestan native took home a trio of unanimous decision successes against one-time title challenger, Tim Elliott, the #3 ranked, Alexandre Pantoja, and the aforenoted, Benavidez.

Team Oyama mainstay, Perez is a product of Dana White’s Contender Series back in August of 2017 — and in eight Octagon walks since, has amassed a 6-2 promotional résumé.

Battling with Para native, Figueiredo in November at the UFC Apex facility, Perez, who replaced former bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt on short notice in the title bout, dropped a quickfire guillotine loss to the Brazilian.

With a professional record of 24-6, Perez has notched an eye-catching five knockout victories to go along with seven submission stoppages, and has managed to finish Jose Torres, Jordan Espinosa, and promotional alum, long-time top contender, Jussier Formiga during his UFC run.

UFC Vegas 33 takes place on July 31st from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada — and features a middleweight main event between Uriah Hall and the surging, Sean Strickland.
