A rescheduled meeting between welterweight division upstarts, Vicente ‘The Silent Assassin’ Luque, and Randy ‘Rude Boy’ Brown has been added to a UFC Fight Night event on August 1st. – after a failing pairing back on April 11th. Luque and Brown were set to meet at the UFC Fight Night Portland event until the entire card was shelved amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Returning to the win column at UFC 249 on May 9th. – New Jersey-based finisher, Luque picked up a late third-round knockout win over Niko Price in a hugely entertaining meeting. Massachusetts native, Brown is currently riding a two-fight rise, with a win over Warlley Alves coming in enemy territory of São Paulo in November. Brown announced the matchup on a Twitch stream.
Luque, 28, had his six-fight win streak snapped at UFC 244 in an admirable, yet one-sided defeat to former two-time title challenger, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson. Prior to the loss, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt notched wins over Mike Perry, Derrick Krantz, Bryan Barberena, Jalin Turner, Chad Laprise, and his first career win over the above-noted, Price. In eighteen career wins, Luque has managed to find the finish on sixteen occasions.
Since his promotional debut back in January of 2016, New York resident, Brown has so far established a 6-3 promotional record. In common opponent, Barberena, Brown also scored a stoppage win. In another opponent shared with Luque – the 29-year-old dropped a second-frame loss to Price. The former Ring of Combat welterweight best has also secured other notable wins over Mickey Gall, and Chris Camozzi. From twelve successes, Brown has managed an eye-catching ten stoppages.
